DESIGN GOAL
a water filtration system for backpackers that is lightweight, RELiable, and intuitive
COLLECTION

Small opening can be difficult to funnel water from the source.
STORAGE
​
Don't have a good way to organize all the components; in a big bag this can be a problem.
Handling
​
Filter output has no way to secure to water bottle for hands off filtration. People will use their feet while squeezing to stabilize.
MAINTENANCE
​
Requires frequent back-flushing with additional syringe that breaks often, adds more weight and volume to your pack.
ASSEMBLY
​
Process to assemble and disassemble includes too many steps and loose parts to try and juggle.

Platypus is a US based company that has been specializing in top-quality, outdoor hydration gear. Their filtration product lineup includes filter bottles and a gravity bag system but there's an opening for a squeeze filter to compete with brands like Sawyer.

DESIGN FEATURES
Rotating dial opens and closes air holes for filtration or back-flushing.
Bottle securely fastened to filter with threads
Paracord keeps cap tethered to bottle and creates handle / clipping point.
Dry bag closure creates reliable seal and hanging point as gravity filter
Divided color positioning visually communicates clean and dirty ends.
